Engaging Students For a Clean Future

Walk Long Beach wants to ensure cleaner safer neighborhoods for students and their families by increasing pedestrian safety and walkability of Long Beach neighborhoods, reduce vehicle emissions and congestion, and build community cohesion and safety awareness.

The 2017 Challenge Winner was awarded $25,000 to expand their Safe Routes to Schools project (SRTS) which promotes walking and biking to school. With their prize, Walk Long Beach is updating existing and completing missing Safe Route to School maps for Long Beach Unified School District. The new maps will be translated into multiple languages and made available online and printed versions will be distributed for communities where internet access or printing costs pose a barrier.
