STAYING ALIVE LEIMERT
People for Mobility Justice empowers, educates, and advocates for increased multi-modal mobility for low-income cyclists, pedestrians, and transit riders.
Their winning submission “Staying Alive Leimert” is a three-pronged campaign that will innovate a culturally-relevant model for advancing sustainable transportation use in communities of color. PMJ in collaboration with Ride On! Bike Coop will create a Mobility Justice Lab policy research team that will conduct community research, surveying friends and family to learn what makes them feel safe while traveling and ultimately translate local concerns into policy change proposals. We will also create a Hood Planners Apprenticeship program to facilitate popular education about urban planning through a mobility justice lens. Lastly, we will create a Life Saving Education station, a mobile empowerment tool with a bike repair stand and materials for a sustainable transportation education pop-up.
