Ride Sharing for Good
Green Raiteros aims to decarbonize transportation and fill a significant transit gap for rural Fresno County communities. A spin on the classic Raiteros model where retired farmworkers drive community members to work, hospitals, courts and other vital appointments for a small fee, this indigenous ride-sharing program provides a means for the community to access low-cost transportation that is now emissions-free.
This 2017 Fresno Challenge Winner was awarded $65,000 to build an all-electric fleet that will leverage a trusted and familiar service while also offsetting greenhouse gases in a region struggling with poor quality. Using their prize funding, Valley Leap, the nonprofit organization behind Green Raiteros, is able to lease two electric vehicles and develop a mobile app to expand access and maximize the program’s impact.
